Summary:
The objective of this study is to develop an efficient high-fidelity Lagrangian tracking module to be implemented in Eulerian-based ocean circulation and CFD-based numerical models to predict the motion of a large number of seeded particles. Fundamental processes governing the transport of oil and its dynamical fate (advection, multi-component evaporation, sinking, etc.) will also be addressed and parameterized. This study sets up a fundamental framework to achieve long-term goal of developing an operational oil-slick transport simulation forced with ocean circulation and sea-air interaction.
