GoMRI Research Program:
Shortly after the DWH tragedy, BP announced a commitment of up to $500 million over ten years to fund an independent research program designed to study the impact of the oil spill on the environment and public health in the Gulf of Mexico. Research Program Overview:
- Over the life of the program, GoMRI directed $413.1 million directly towards research, $20.6 million for data archiving, $15.5 million towards outreach and communication, and $50.8 million towards administration and program operations.
- This research involved the efforts of 1,106 scientists, 367 Post Docs, 638 Phd Students, 567 Masters Students, and 1,050 Undergraduates and 718 staff and others.
- While the focus was the Gulf of Mexico, GoMRI funded researchers in 43 states and 18 different countries.
- These research efforts produced 1,726 Journal Articles, 105 Book Chapters, and 7 Books. Additionally, there were 5,433 Conference Presentations.
